4 Poems by A.J. Huffman

Backwoods Belles

little girls will ask
and realize nothing
with humiliation at the hands of truck stops and motels
yet a short suppression of experience
doesn’t stand still
au contraire
it’s an inherently vague concept
carefully tested
to choose the consequence of traditional chance

and overwhelmed by several years of new therapy
the correct answer to the question
is “no”

Buried Treasures

go ahead and wash it
what does size have to do with anything
remarkable calculations go for the bold
i imagine again
the way your skin looks
the unique fusion of body love
and resilience
it’s a star-struck match
in a hot batch of anything but predictable

For Masochists Only

rampant charges of discretion
should be able to achieve
a moment of opportunity to communicate without words
if only your life can switch down
and enjoy the battle
you’ve got to win

[Ad]Just Dance

Black.
             Blank.
                         Unblock.
Whispered stop.
One threw four.
Stomp turn.
Ball/chain(ge).
Restart?
How retro.
Groove the way.
Gouge it out.
Sideways.
Spinning deeper.
Paint it silver.
And label it:
Solid Gold.
